Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical skin solution to the skin to remove dead skin cells, and stimulate the regeneration of new skin cells, to give you smoother and youthful-looking skin. In general, lighter peels are used for exfoliation, acne, fine lines and wrinkles, and mild discolouration, while stronger peels are used to improve deeper wrinkles and extensive sun damage and discolouration. Chemical peels can be done in conjunction with our Photo Rejuvenation Laser treatment to achieve optimum results. However, a thorough evaluation is required before an appropriate chemical peel program can be recommended.
The frequency of the treatments depends on the different skin conditions as well as the strength of the peels. For maintenance, lighter peels with shorter downtime can be performed once every month to once every few months. Stronger peels are done less frequently, as they require a longer downtime.
Recovery time after a chemical peel depends on the strength of the peel used. Chemical peels usually cause redness, and skin peeling can be expected 3 days after the procedure, that can last up to a week. As with all chemical peels, proper skincare after the procedure is important to prevent infections, speed up the healing time, and for lasting results. Avoiding direct sun exposure is also crucial to prevent colour changes to the treated area.
